A change and A New House

Hello, remember me? I’m back with a new blog template and an attempt to liven this blog [once again]! Lately, I’ve been perusing many wonderful blogs to gather inspirations for the new home that we are building. With the building process whipping through so quickly, I have been pinning everything on my Pinterest boards so that I can virtually organized my ideas. I [LOVE] PINTEREST, but I’m afraid that the social hype will die out quickly -- another topic for another blog post.

Since this is my first time building a house with a home builder, I had to do extensive research on who I’m dealing with, and the process it takes once started to completion. I was told it will take 4 months from the start of the process to my closing date. And like many others, I was in awed that anything this big could be built without sacrifice in quality. Prior to making a decision to build a house, the husband and I have visited many model homes to get an idea of what builder plans and finished we liked. Seriously though, Home Builders are just the Project Managers of the building process and they outsource the building to local contractors. There are only a set number of contractors in a city so I’m sure they all produce similar type of work. What sets these builders apart are the finishing touches and cost of upgrades they offer off of the base price and I must say they varies a lot from one builder to another.

Once we finalized on the builder and neighborhood we wanted to live in, we put down the earnest deposit on a floor plan that we loved. Next step onto the design center, it took us a good 5-6 weeks of time to finalized the home finishes. I couldn’t decide on traditional tiles vs. modern contemporary, carpet color even though we only had three to select from. Do I want all brick, all stone, or a mix and WHAT COLOR? Any other structural changes, electrical outlets, gas lines, etc, etc, had to be decided before they break ground on the house. More changes, more upgrades, means more $$$. We had to get over the price tag quickly if we wanted to build our dream home. Talk about mental exhaustion. Since I work better with visual presentations, I had to Sketch up my whole floor plan in Google Sketch and built it to the specs that I had chosen. I was afraid of making the wrong choices, and I’m not lying when I said I built it all up in Google Sketch [the whole-two story plan].

Now that the house is well underway of construction, I can begin to gather home décor inspirations for each room. I’m slightly nervous about my color schemes but I can say I’m aiming for a Modern + Midcentury look. Even if this is a ‘Cookie Cutter’ house, I’m ecstatic to be moving into a home and I can make my own. I squeal at the thought of tufted furniture, Moroccan Trellis patterns, and DIY attempts. I hope to be blogging a lot more often now that I have such a big project at hand so come back to follow my progress!

xoxo,
kimmy
